what foods cause bloating

bloating foodsHey Fam

I hope you are all going well and enjoying the sun when she comes out. I am so looking forward to Spring weather as well as it being the season of my birthday. I am currently sitting in the house with my coconut coffee (trying out some coconut milks because usually I’m a Bonsoy gal), listening to the waves, watching Ziggy + Grommet eye each other off while I write everything I have learnt about bloating.

Bloating can be caused by quiet a lot of things; something simple from eating too fast, eating too many beans or it’s an underling health condition. If you think that your bloating isn’t normal I would suggest that you head to your Naturopath to get it looked into and get to the bottom of it.

Here are two things to look at, before we get to the foods.

This one I looked past for a while. EATING SLOWLY. We all eat too fast these days. We are so busy multi tasking while we are eating to try and achieve more. Whether we are scrolling our phones, watching TV, driving, talking to some one – we need to take a breather and eat much more slowly and intentional. We need to chew a few more times and really look at what we are eating. When you eat fast, you are taking in air without noticing – causing you to feel bloated and uncomfortable. Take your time to really enjoy your food. Food tastes so much better without any distractions and you’ll feel satiated once you’re finished. Try it and let me know how different it feels. #gamechanger

This one is potentially TMI (too much information) but I am guessing that you clicked on this post for a reason so I am going to give you the tools you need to sort out that bloating. CHECK YOUR BOWEL MOVEMENTS. It isn’t ‘normal’ to be constipated daily as for the opposite. Your poop says a lot about your diet and you intolerances. We are meant to have frequent easy bowel movements. If yours aren’t – I suggest seeing that Natropath or your GP.

Here are some foods that’ll cause a little bit more upset in the belly

  1. Legumes
Beans, Beans, the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot?
(let me know in the comments below if you sung that in your head, I know I did).
You know the old saying and pretty true. Some people process them better and others don’t, it depends on your stomach enzymes to break them down. If you eat a lot of beans (like me), eat them in smaller portions at the beginning and work your way up to a bigger size. Also, really take your time to eat these and lots of chewing.
  2. Carbonated Drinks
  3. Cabbage, Onions, Artichokes, Mushrooms, Turnips, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Brussel sprouts
  4. Pears, Apples, Peaches
  5. Whole Grains (gluten intolerant)
  6. Fatty Foods
  7. Dairy (lactose intolerant)
  8. Fructose + Mannitol
  9. Alcohol Beverages

These foods can cause bloating in some and others are completely fine. I’d suggest that if you do have more than normal amounts of bloating, to pop in and see your Natropath.

Remember to eat slowly and start to take note of what you eat and when you do get bloated. Sometimes we have to be our own guinea pig to sort through and figure out the cause. Good luck!

Let me know in the comments below what foods make you bloated.

Love + Peace
